Human rights violations at Alligator Alcatraz and Krome detention centers in Florida
Source: Amnesty International
Amnesty International’s report documents systemic human rights abuses at Florida’s Everglades Detention Facility (“Alligator Alcatraz”) and Krome North Service Processing Center, including inhuman conditions, lack of medical care and violent treatment. The report notes that Alligator Alcatraz operates without federal oversight, enabling incommunicado detention and enforced disappearances. At Krome, extreme overcrowding, prolonged solitary confinement and violence by guards were observed. Florida’s anti‑immigrant policies in 2025 have expanded detention, increasing the population by over 50% and diverting funds to these facilities.
